NATIONAL TEST: Dantani, Otoo shine as Meteors escape defeat

Ghana’s National U23 team, the Black Meteors    had to dig deep to avoid defeat against Dreams FC in a 2-2 drawn game at the El WAK Sports Stadium on Saturday morning.

While manager Winfred Dormorn continues to fine-tune his squad since commencing pre-season in July, the game was also an opportunity for coach Ibrahim Tanko to access his local charges one more time before the influx of foreign players into the squad next week.

The national u23 side struck first with the opener from defender Emmanuel Cudjoe who headed home after connecting from a corner kick.

His goal was however cancelled three minutes after the half hour mark by youth team graduate Kwame Otoo in a stupendous fashion.

The budding striker’s goal was a reflection of his output from the blast of the whistle as a remained a threat all afternoon.

With parity restored both teams battled out in midfield till the whistle for recess.

The second half begun with more daring runs from Kwame Otoo and Dantani Amadu who pulled the strings from offensive midfield.

Dantani got rewarded for his five star performance on the afternoon in the 63rd minute with a scintillating strike from about 30 yards that got every soul at the stadium applauding the budding talent for his strike.

Goalkeeper in post for U23 made efforts and crawled back with a full stretch but still couldn’t connect a finger to parry the ball over the bar as the ball dipped from mid-air into the back of the net.

Dantani’s strike was beyond the reach of U23 Goalkeeper Osei Kwame

Not much changed after the goal with Dreams pushing for more goals to seal victory.

Kwame’s brilliance on the day made him too hot to handle for the Meteors defense with numerous fouls to their credit.

Manager Dormon shuffled his cards with the exit of Cletus Nombil, Dantani, Kwame Otu and Emmanuel Armah as the strength of the team visibly took a sharp decline 10 minutes from full time.

However a determined Black Meteors side sustained streaks of attack in the dying embers of the game to restore parity despite the heroics of goalkeeper Agbesi Solomon who had made a double save prior to Abdul Razak’s equalizer.

The draw becomes Manager Dormon’s first game without a win after 10 successive wins in pre-season friendlies.

The Black Meteors begun residential camping in Accra since August 6, 2019 in preparation for the African U23 Championship double-legged qualifying match against Algeria.
